About His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has consistently advocated policies of non-violence, even in the face of extreme aggression. He is also the first Nobel Laureate to be recognized for his concern for global environmental problems. He was awarded the United States highest civilian honor, The Congressional Gold Medal in 2007 and in 2012 received The Templeton Prize which honors a living person who has made an exceptional contribution to affirming life’s spiritual dimension, whether through insight, discovery, or practical works.

Note about the Price of the Event Tickets

We are making a sincere attempt to keep ticket prices moderate. However, the high costs of hosting such an event in a major urban area makes this a challenge. The Wang Theatre is a relatively small venue which reduces the number of tickets we can sell and the resulting income. About 10 % of the seats are reserved for ordained Buddhist sangha, the costs of which are completely sponsored by the event. As the Wang is a fully unionized theatre, we are required to use their staff at the venue rather than volunteers. Additional costs including security for both morning and afternoon entry to the theatre, transportation, lodging and printing of texts incrementally add on costs.

Our goal is that the income received from the ticket sales covers all the costs of the event with only a slight excess in case we underestimate the costs. If there are any surplus funds, they will be donated to the service of the Dharma under the guidance of the Office of Tibet. The event is not a fundraiser for any organization nor do any of the event staff receive any financial compensation for their work – they are offering their time voluntarily.

We sincerely apologize if the ticket price prevents you from attending and suggest you consider purchasing tickets for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s public talk at TD Garden on November 1 http://www.bostontibet.org/index.html
